"Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party" by Hayley Williams
Jumping on the bandwagon with this one. The title track from her third solo album, Hayley rips into Nashville country music and bachelorette party culture, topping it off with an insanely groovy drumline and her classic powerhouse vocals. The keys in the bridge remind me of the intro to "In Limbo" by Radiohead and scratches a very particular itch in my brain.
"Human Happens" by Magdalena Bay
Imaginal Disk is one of my favorite albums to come out in the past two years. Mag Bay has a massive task to follow-up this record, and they are going above and beyond with their recent releases. “Human Happens” is my favorite single of the bunch, with some incredible guitar and synth work and a vibe that I would like represented in a full LP asap.
"All in My Head" by Over Under
If you’re not on the Over Under train, get on it NOW. Massively under-appreciated, the Salt Lake City-based band gained a decent following after opening for The Backseat Lovers on their 2023 tour. This band keeps releasing banger after banger, and it blows my mind every time. EVERY. TIME.
“All in My Head” was the first single from their debut album Memory Lane and is a standout track. The bass is stanky, the guitars are ripping, and the songwriting is on par with everything else. These guys are truly in a different league.
"It's Time" by Truth Club
I was first made aware of Truth Club at Horse Jumper of Love’s October 2023 show at DRKMTTR in Nashville, TN. Co-opening alongside Nashville band The Sewing Club, it was a STACKED show. I left the show blown away by both bands and immediately dove into their discogs.
“It’s Time” was one of the standout tracks by Truth Club, both in their live show and their recorded catalog. I came across this song again recently and am just as obsessed as I was when I first heard it.
